Ironic as it may sound, this originally lamb-based pie can be made without any animal products. Famous for his Steak Sarnie, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver decided to try his hand at something a little out of his regular menu. His version of the shepherd’s pie is completely rid of animal produce. Instead of using lamb, mutton or any other meat, Jamie used a whole lot of potatoes, sweet potatoes, chickpeas and lentils.

To give it a meaty texture, he added chestnut mushrooms. This is perfect for your non-vegan relatives who would want to get the familiar feel of meat in their mouths. The chef also used dairy-free margarine to give it a bit of a ‘fatty’ flavor. With herbs and spices to enhance the taste, the resulting dish is a hearty pie that looks and tastes just like a normal shepherd’s pie without the guilt-inducing ingredients.
