Golden Retrievers Used For Experiments at a Texas University

by | May 2, 2019

Last week People for Ethical Treatment of Animals released a video revealing years long tormenting on the hugely popular breed of dog- golden retrievers. Whereas the beautiful dogs are ideally supposed to stroll around in joyful steps, instead they’re caught behind the bars, their bodies used as test bases to develop a certain cure. Know more about the golden retrievers used for experiments at a Texas University.

Texas A&M University (TAMU) Conducts Tests on Dogs Leaving Them Physically Disoriented

In a rather wasteful attempt to find a reverse disease symptom for muscular dystrophy (MD) on canines, team led by Joe Kornegay of Texas A&M University (TAMU) has been found experimenting on golden retrievers. The person is allegedly experimenting for the last 35 plus years. A 3 years old video released by PETA shows the beautiful animals in horrible and heart-wrenching conditions, locked in cages, appallingly thin, disoriented, unnecessarily and possible uncontrollably salivating, and as if their eyes are narrating their pain.

The reason for such tormenting torture on the dogs? Because the University has been conducting research to find a cure for canine muscular dystrophy (MD) which, according to PETA has not been able to bear any cure, nor reverse the disease symptoms. The disease ravages the bodies of these dogs, degrading their muscles, causing weakness. The condition reportedly makes the dog difficult to walk, open their mouths, and even swallow something.

“For 35 years, experimenter Joe Kornegay has been using public funds to breed colonies of dogs- most recently at Texas A&M University (…),” writes PETA in their video.

The Footage you Wouldn’t Like to See Twice

The eyewitness video footage obtained by PETA shows the dogs locked in
Kornegay’s laboratory as in metal cages, their condition unbearably bad. The dogs reportedly struggle to swallow any food, and the only food they can eat is thin gruel (because they can choke themselves). Long ropes of saliva can be seen hanging from their mouths, entailing jaw muscle weakness. The dogs could barely walk and according to PETA, they are prone to pneumonia, given how easily they can inhale liquid. The dogs who didn’t have the disease but the genes were bred.

This will blow your minds: experimenter Kornegay, to test the muscle weakness in the affected dogs have reportedly machined an exceedingly crude method- the dogs would be stretched in machine induced level causing their muscles to tear. It is even reported the puppies born in his lab so weak they need supplement nutrients and by the age of six months, their bodies start showing symptoms that’d go on to make their lives living hell.

Join in the Changing

The animal rights activist has called for a change to this appalling situation involving the beautiful dogs. Dogs with such conditions naturally are treated with utmost love and care in veterinary clinics with highest-quality support, and then comes this condition at the University research center.

PETA is calling for support and you can do the same here along with other notable people like actor Lily Tomlin, NFL player Ryan Tannehill, Director Richard Linklater, and recently musician Nikki Sixx, who all have spoken against the University’s torture. Let’s call this for a strict stop and request to redirect the funds in other humane methods. This is just one species of animal, there’re countless others waking up to another dreadful day in their lives, whereas they’re born free, just like us. It’s time to modernize these experiments by moving to advanced non-animal methods, for the sake of both dogs and children who are suffering with this terrible disease and haven’t been helped by dead-end experiments on animals.

There is no excuse for these unethical, horrific experiments on dogs when innovative technology exists for testing.

This is heartbreaking. No living being should endure such cruelty.

These cruel, pointless experiments are outrageous. Check the calendar: It’s the 21st century.
