by | April 18, 2019

Montana-based vegan lip balm brand Hurraw! is on a mission to be the finest balm on the market, to be the lip balm for people of all backgrounds and we can see how attainable this mission is for the 11-person company. Exclusively using ingredients that are organic, vegan, and raw, Hurraw! is committed to their mission of delivering these eco-friendly products.

Let’s put the concept ahead of the profit, the user ahead of the maker, the collective ahead of the individual.

Hurraw!’s two newest additions to their collection, the BALMTOO (pictured below) and the AURA line are markers of their effort to be a sustainable company. These products are packaged in an eco-friendly way using aluminum, tin and glass in effort of closing what they call the “plastic loop.”

Our Raise Vegan team had the opportunity to chat with Hurraw! about their company, products, and future plans. Below, you can see a few of our favorite highlights from the interview we conducted with the company.

RV: Where are you based (Montana?) and what’s it like working at Hurraw!

H: We’re based in Whitefish Montana. A tiny liberal Ski Town in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. We’re a small company…there are currently 11 of us here. We work in teams to manufacture fresh cosmetics daily and try to have a bit of fun doing it 🙂

RV: While the market and demand for vegan beauty products is growing, there are still so many companies who are not up to speed about the reality that cosmetics can be produced ethically, without harm to animals and vegan.  What do you think needs to happen to further propel the shift towards a more ethical cosmetics market?

H: I think the awareness is growing at a good speed. We’re more concerned about pre-loading ethical awareness in our culture. With the level of identity divisiveness, and physical factors (especially here in the US), it’s impossible to expect the entire population to be conscious of their footprint and actions. I think we have to go back to basics and start taking care of our people, their education, their healthcare, their ability to eat on a daily basis.
It’s easy for us in the cosmetics world, or the foodie world, or the ‘vegan’ world to point a finger at what we consider less conscious actions. It’s much harder for us to change the system that makes that animal/ethical conscious gap much larger than most of us can imagine.
Ultimately, when people feel more love and support from their community, they will be more receptive to paying that respect forward to their fellow animals.

RV: For those who want to shop vegan and cruelty free, certifications and labels are extremely important. Can you tell us more about your certifications?

H: Agreed! Hurraw! Balm is a certified vegan company through Vegan Action (Vegan.org). We are also registered by the VeganSociety (VeganSociety.com). Hurraw! Balm is a Certified Cruelty Free company via CCIC; The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics provides the leaping bunny logo which assures our cruelty-free standards (no animals are used/harmed/tested on in any stage of the manufacture of our product, including our suppliers).
