Vegan Tesla Might Come To Reality; Mode 3 and Y To Be Veganized From 2020
Tesla will ditch the use of animal-based leather for the steering wheel of their Model 3 and Model Y; the only non-vegan parts of the e-cars. They already use their proprietary “Tesla Synthetic Fiber” as an alternative to leather on their cars, and now it is the steering wheel’s turn to get veganized. CEO Elon Musk has reportedly confirmed to a PETA representative. Know more here.

Vegan Tesla Might Come To Reality? Mode 3 and Y To Be Veganized From 2020, CEO Elon Musk confirms
Electric car maker- Tesla has announced on June 11th that from next year, Model 3 and Model Y will go fully vegan. The news clarifies that even their steering wheel, the only part that has been made with animal-based material will be veganized from 2020, reports e-vehicle news outlet Electrek.
Although Tesla shifted to their custom-made vegan alternative of leather called “Tesla Synthetic Material” for the seat covers across ranges, the steering wheel continued to be non-vegan, reports the news source, but until now.
Steering towards Vegan?
According to the report, after a PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) representative approached Tesla to consider ditching animal leather for their steering wheel, Elon Musk, the famous CEO of the electric car making company commented about the new upcoming changes. There, Musk explained that they have a design for a non-heated synthetic steering wheel ready, but that heated wheels nonetheless are harder issues to solve.
The CEO also mentioned, since we carry a number of oils and gunks on our hands, durability is another unique issue. However in the questionnaire, he made it pretty clear that two of their vehicles will go fully vegan, by saying- “Model Y, Model 3, I think I’m confident about that,” reports Electrek.
The brand reportedly patented a new fabric technology that apparently looks wool-based, and this poses some questions if Tesla is really going totally vegan. We hope the fabric uses anything but wool to bring the wool-like effect. Because the pain sheep undergo, is ever so horrific than the joy of seating on a fabric, derived from it.
