About
The child leash is classified as a “safety device” for parents to use when out and about with small children. There’s no doubt that confused or even disgusted stares may result from using one in public, this is due to the adverse reaction by people on seeing a parent almost “walking” their child. However, it is important to note that has proven to be effective for children that always seem to wander as well as children that may suffer from certain mental disabilities.
When to Use
With everything, there is an obvious time and place when something is acceptable or not. When it comes to child leashes, there’s no denying that they can come in hand during a busy day at Disneyland or while hiking. However, when might not be the best time to use them? If your child is young enough to sit in a shopping cart, there’s no shame in that! It can make your job as a parent easier as you work through your Target shopping list. There is a gray area however when it comes to how long it is deemed passable for a child to wear a leash in public. As a parent, it is up to you to evaluate the maturity and behavior of your child when deciding if using a harness is needed (if at all) in various situations.

Types
There are a few popular types of child leashes on the market. One of the most common is the one that wraps around their torso like a harness, as pictured in this post. Other popular types of leashes are ones that connect at their wrist (which actually is pretty dangerous) and one that is a backpack which they can simply wear. The backpack child leash is one of the more mild versions of it, as it looks less “out there”.
