Having plump, glowing skin is something everyone wishes for themselves, and while genetics play an undeniable role in whether or not you can have that, our daily habits play an even bigger one. The state of our skin is a reflection of how we feel on the inside, and we should consider all of the changes as signals that our body sends us to alert us about our state. This is especially important when you’re pregnant as your health affects not only you, but the baby, as well. Let’s see what you can do to keep your skin healthy during your pregnancy using natural, organic products.

As always, it starts from the inside. Eating processed foods is not only bad for your health but your skin will definitely show it too. Make sure that the majority of your diet is fresh fruit and veggies, and that you drink lots of water, as our bad diets and habits tend to show through our skin. Having a healthy diet is needed, especially during pregnancy when everything that’s consumed affects both the mother and the baby. Since spring is on our doorsteps, we have a wider variety of healthy green foods to choose from. Vegetables and fruits are the key ingredients in making delicious (and nutritious) meals. They are natural providers of many nutrients, such as potassium, fiber and all the vitamins. Broccoli, beets, tomatoes, Brussel sprouts and spinach are high in iron, which is very important for mothers-to-be, especially if they have struggled with anemia in the past. Strawberries are delicious, but also full of fiber and Vitamin C. They are perfect for making healthy smoothies!

Still cruelty-free and vegan

As we live in a fast world, we are left to rely on store-bought skincare products. While choosing the products, avoid those that contain alcohol and synthetic fragrances. It’s important to research each and every ingredient as the baby can be affected by what we put on our skin. Luckily there are plenty of vegan, cruelty-free brands that can be bought in local stores such as Lush or Body Shop. As mentioned, during the many stages of pregnancy, the overall body changes take a tremendous toll on our skin. Red and reactive skin is sometimes hard to tame, especially with raging hormones. Plenty of women experience breakouts during pregnancy, especially on their cheeks and chin. Stay away from products with harsh ingredients, as those can end up stripping the skin of its important oils, which could result in more breakouts. Instead, look for a mild daily cleanser or oil. To manage the redness, it’s good to use products with aloe vera, collagen-boosting ingredients or lime, which help improve skin tone.

If you have some extra time on your hands and want to spend it on self-care, then you can delve into some DIY to save money and be sure of what ingredients are going on your skin. It’s well known that during pregnancy, the skin tends to change – a lot. Because of all the hormones, it can go from very dry and flaky to oily and acne-prone within a day. We can use the healthy foods we eat to take care of our skin from the outside, as well. Ideally, making DIY masks out of all natural ingredients means knowing exactly what we put on our body. Here are a few easy DIY recipes for glowing skin: An avocado and oatmeal mask is a perfect and easy home remedy. Just mix half an avocado (make sure that it’s ripe) with raw oatmeal and keep it on your face for 15 minutes. Leave a cucumber in the fridge for a while, then cut it up and rub it on your face. It will leave your skin feeling cool and fresh. Banana masks are rich in vitamins and are also good for skin with acne and scars. Mash a ripened banana, add few drops of almond oil, mix it up and apply it to your clean face. Leave it on and then rinse after 15 minutes.

In order to feel good, we need to take good care of ourselves, truly consider what we eat and drink as well as what we put on our body. It’s totally possible to have glowing, radiant skin while still following vegan, cruelty-free skincare routine that is also pregnancy-friendly!
