Taco Bell is to test out the vegan and vegetarian menus pretty soon.
Taco Bell announced on Thursday that they will be testing out a plant-based menu at a few of their locations in California this year.
The fast-food chain will unveil limited-time vegan and vegetarian menu items as part of the trial. They will also highlight their current vegetarian and vegan options.
The chain has said that it will make it easier for those who follow a plant-based diet to see everything they offer on one specific menu.

At the moment, Taco Bell has twenty-eight customizable vegan items on offer including; Seven-Layer Burrito, Crunchwrap, Double Decker Taco, Spicy Potato Soft Taco, Black Beans and Rice, and Chips.
The chain has a “make it meatless” feature on its app and website that shows customers how to customize their orders. In 2016, they changed the ingredients in their rice so that it would be vegan-friendly.
Elizabeth Matthews, Taco Bell’s chief food innovation officer, says that they’ve always been a safe haven for vegetarians and that many people just weren’t aware.
Matthews also said that it’s fun to announce the new menu at the beginning of the year, but that they don’t see it as a resolution.
Taco Bell’s Manager of Global Nutrition and Sustainability, Missy Schaaphok, told VegNews that they’re always looking for opportunities to give more choices to their customers. More Americans are adopting plant-based and flexitarian diets and they’re proud to be able to accommodate them.
While the company says that they don’t view this announcement as a New Year’s resolution, I think the timing of it is perfect for Veganuary as a lot of Omnis are going vegan for the month, and this may show them that there are more and more plant-based options becoming available every day.
The announcement by Taco Bell to test out vegan and vegetarian menus has vegans excited. Recently, McDonald’s and Pizza Hut also hopped on the bandwagon with their Vegan Happy Meal and jackfruit pizza respectively.
