I have a love/hate relationship with avocado. Without fail, I will put avocado on anything and everything, but I am guilty of buying an unruly amount when they go on sale, leaving me with more than I could ever manage to put on my morning toast or afternoon salads. Here are four surprising avocado hacks for those days when you have more than you could eat.

Vitamin-Packed Hair Mask

If your biotin vitamins haven’t been giving you your desired results, try incorporating hair masks into your weekly regime. Using only an avocado and coconut oil, you can achieve an effortlessly glossy shine to your locks. Using half of an avocado and a generous tablespoon of coconut oil, make a creamy mixture and apply to your hair, working from the bottom up. Do not apply the mixture to your scalp area, as it could leave it too greasy. Let sit in hair for 15-30 minutes inside a shower cap and completely rinse.

Balancing Face Mask

While you have your hair mask in, think about making an avocado and oatmeal face mask to bring healthy oils back to your skin. After washing your face, mix equal parts avocado and cooked oatmeal in a small dish. Apply to face once the mixture is cool enough and let sit for fifteen minutes. Rinse off the mixture and finish off your skincare routine with toner, serum, and moisturizer.

Delectable Brownies

For healthy vegan and gluten-free brownies that you can either enjoy yourself or bring to work, take a look at Ambitious Kitchen’s recipe for Flourless Black Bean Avocado Brownies. With 4g of protein and 5g of fiber per serving, there’s no need to feel guilty for eating two (or even three) of these perfectly fudgy treats. If you’re making a larger batch, you can alternatively freeze a portion of the batter and thaw out to bake whenever you’re in the mood for a sweet treat.

Frozen Avo Cubes

A freezer is a vegan’s best friend, it’s a great way to store produce in order to save it for later. If you’re a smoothie fanatic like I am, this hack is for you. Carefully chop a fresh avocado into cubes; the firmer, the better. Store in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag or reusable container. Whenever you’re ready for a creamy, avocado-based smoothie, add in your frozen avo cubes to your blender along with anything else you would like. My favorite power-recipe is frozen avo cubes, fresh banana, a couple of pitted dates, and matcha powder.
