In search of a fun but easy vegan snack recipe? You’re at right place.

Okra can be boring or fun depending on how you make it. Many people complain that they do not like the slimy texture of the okra in their dishes. As a child even I hated that thing. But now that I know some really interesting recipes of okra, I really respect this vegetable. This particular recipe is not exactly on the healthy side as it is deep fried. You can count this recipe in for your cheat days or even entertain vegan guests to something unique and exotic.

P:S- Some simple ingredients but the strong flavor is the trick to getting crispy fried okra.

Ingredients:

  • Okra– 250 grams; cut in halves along the length
  • Rice flour– 2 tablespoons
  • Tempura powder– 2 tablespoon
  • Plain flour– 1 tablespoon
  • Paprika powder– ½ tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder– 1 teaspoon
  • Carom seed– 1 teaspoon
  • Lemon juice– 1 tablespoon
  • Salt– to taste
  • Organic sugar– 1 teaspoon
  • White pepper powder

Instructions:

  • Cut the okra lengthwise in halves and add lemon juice. Mix well with the okra and marinade it for 15 minutes.
  • Now add the rice flour, tempura powder, plain flour, paprika powder, and turmeric powder through a sieve, and mix with the okra.
  • Add salt and sugar and drizzle some water to combine the okra with the dry ingredients.
  • You will get okra semi-covered with the flour mix. Add the carom seeds and give one final toss.
  • Heat enough oil in a pan to deep fry. Once the oil is hot enough, add the okra a hand full at a time. Fry until brownish and crisp.
  • Do not release all the okra at a time as it will form a big lump and not cook well on the inside.
  • After the entire batch is fried, add some white pepper powder and serve with a steaming cup of coffee.

The crispy texture of the okra on the outside is the result of the rice flour and tempura flour. This two ingredients cannot be substituted with. Enjoy this tasty treat on a cold evening. Do try this recipe and share your thoughts with us.
